Meet Linda Caron!
Linda Caron 2010
So what do you do around here?

I am the Special Event Coordinator for the Foundation.

What is your role and what does it involve?

I help to organize and work with the many volunteer committee members who plan the events we host to raise funds to purchase equipment for the Hospital.

What is the most challenging part of your role?

The most challenging part is to keep our events unique and fresh. Many of the events are annual and we like to change them up year after year so those who attend do not see the same thing each year. Another challenge is to run these events on a very low expense budget. We work hard to ensure that the majority of every dollar raised goes to equipment.

What else should our community and donors know about your role?

I would like the community to know what a great bunch of volunteers we have! Without their dedication we would not be able to host these events and raise the funds we do.

Popular Hockey Tournament Benefits G&M Hospital Foundation and Communities

Collingwood Paradocs Hockey Team 2010

Collingwood Paradocs 2010

What happens when 750 doctors, including 100 med students and six communities come together? A fantastic and "best ever" hockey tournament, that's what! This event was organized by the G&M Hospital Foundation, however what made it quite unique was the effort and coordination by six area municipalities to host and positively influence physicians in our area for three days in April. Physician recruitment and fundraising were two of the many goals of the tournament.

Teams came from all over Ontario and as far away as Austria. Six Ontario medical schools sent players. Participants played games in arenas in Elmvale, Stayner, Thornbury, Collingwood, Meaford, Wasaga Beach which gave these communities a great opportunity to showcase their area. At event headquarters at the Conference Centre at Blue Mountain, players also got the chance to learn about each municipality as well as our Rural Ontario Medical Program (which trains doctors for areas such as ours) and our G&M Hospital.

Heard in the locker room:
"Great tournament! I think this was the largest number of participants yet at our annual event."
"Thanks for all of the hard work and the work of your organizing committee."
"The senior tourney players who have come for close to three decades are a pretty tough crowd to impress and they said this was the best Docs On Ice tournament they'd ever been to!"
The event raised $110,000 which will go to purchase surgical equipment at the G&M. A hearty round of applause to sponsors Trial Management and Scotiabank as well as our dedicated volunteer organizers and staff, led by Foundation Event Coordinator Linda Caron.
